Yes, a little bit.  thicker needs to be shorter and thicker gives wider bandwidth.

Again, a little bit.  Copper best, silver plated anything is very best, aluminum about as good as copper, steel least best.  It could be that stainless is slightly more lossy than normal steel, but I don’t know.
