It looks like the motor position has been reversed. The gear on the motor shaft doesn't engage anything. But there is a gear on the selector that appears it would mate with the motor gear. Also if there was a mechanism to feed a reel of tape, it also appears to be missing. Whichever, there appears to be some missing parts.
