Doug,
They look like shipping screws to me, at least two of them do.

Subject: [GreenKeys] ASR 33
I've finally had the chance to strip the covers off the ASR33 here at
the U of Iowa. I took some photos of the guts:
The guided tour of the machine is here:

Of more interest, here is the log for the day's work:

It looks like the broken paper-tape reader will be straightforward to
repair -- someone probably tried to use it as a hand-grip for lifting the
machine. Bad idea. But, there's ample space inside for some steel
angles, and I can easily cut, drill and tap steel to attach it all without
adding bulk anywhere that interferes with anything. (That's under the
Bug 7 topic.)
What is the plastic used for the cover? PVC? ABS? It's pretty filthy,
and I wonder if mild soap is the strongest thing I should use, or
is there something like Windex recommended.
Knowing what the plastic is would also help figure out how to deal
with broken prongs -- some of the hinged lids have these, and in most
cases, we have the pieces. If ABS or PVC, we can glue and splint
them with the right solvents.
Bug 17 is a greater concern. The window in the top of the cover is
cracked and entirely loose. It seems to be a different kind of plastic.
Does anyone know what kind? Repair or replace, that is the question.
Oh yes, in this photo, you can see some whopping big screws that
someone tossed into the chassis under the paper-tape punch. What
are they? Shipping screws perhaps?

Any and all advice would be appreciated.
