Yep, in the late 60's I used to use my old (newer at the time) Regency HR-2 two-meter transceiver to do AFSK and even used it on CW. What?,.....CW. Yes, back then both I and another ham here in town were getting together to study theory and practice CW, getting our code speed up to 20+ WPM so we could go take the Amateur Extra class FCC test. We quickly came to the conclusion that we could do it from home by going through the theory on two meter simplex. A couple of others joined in too. After that we each took an old code practice audio buzzer (later an audio oscillator), keyed up the mike button, held the mike in front of the buzzer and sent CW back and forth across town. It worked great and we each were comfortable at about 24-25 wpm when we went to take our test.
