Hello George and Group:

Tidbit, Off Topic, but of interest.

Thanks to George for sending the HONOR ROLL. Always glad to
see the names of our fellow brethern on display.

For the vets, one thing all might consider when out in public:

Wear your ribbons, patches, caps, T-shirts, patch jackets,
or some other military adornment when you go out, especially
if you are going out to eat, going to Home Depot and the like.
It seems to get some attention, and you can get immediate
discounts or even freebies from vendors. Movie theaters also
off military discounts. For some of these discounts, you may
have to ask, and you will be surprised at the answers, which
are usually very positive (in your favor).

Many eating establishments offer discounts to vets, as does
Home Depot and Lowes. IHOP give a big discount to vets.

Smaller places like some service stations that serve coffee,
and small snacks, etc will usually give you free coffee. My local
hair cutter gives vets a large discount for a haircut, normally
about $12.00, but for vets (and dependents), only $7.00.

Well worth it to wear something military, not only on Memorial
Day or Veterans Day, but every time you go out.....

During the cold months, I wear an MA-1 flight jacket (you can
get these from Medals of America and other outlets). The jacket
has patches and other items. A second such jack has all
of my ribbons (ribbon bars) attached, and it is a real attention
getter. Folks, both other vets and non-vets love to SEE this
stuff.......

Also, feel free to use your rank or rate as part of your mailing 
address, especially if you are retired. Not sure if most are
aware, but if you are retired from any branch of the service,
you still hold the rank/rate, and your retirement check says
so, since you are being paid at that pay grade. If you have a
military ID card (National Guard, Reserve, Retired, that is
further proof, as your rank/rate is imprnted on it. No one will
dispute it, since it is an official US Govt document. 

A wallet sized copy of your Discharge Certificate or DD-214
also helps (Most UPS stores and other outlets can shrink
these down to wallet size and laminate them for you). I
have a Discharge Certificate on one side and a DD-214 on
the reverse, wallet sized) 

This stuff works and it counts.....but you have to make 
folks aware of it, particularly since veterans and troops
in recent years have very high visibility in most communities
across the country.
