You need a year to prepare for a hospitality room?
Tomorrow, I'm off to the Clockwork Alchemy Steampunk Convention
in San Jose, CA. We will have, as we did last year, a Telegraph
Office. We have a Model 14 and a Model 15 in custom-built brass and
glass steampunk cases. We have all the props for a 19th century
telegraph office, with backdrops, signs, pictures, and period
desk accessories. We're in a glass walled room off the hotel
lobby.
Visitors can send messages by texting from their cell phones.
These are automatically printed on the Model 15.
Our costumed messengers and operators, most of whom are young
women, handle the messages, delivering them around the convention.
"Telegram for ...".
Clockwork Alchemy has a tea room. So we don't have
to do much hospitality, although we do put out a tray of candies
for visitors.
So think bigger.
