That is the sending installation of the NYSE that was put in along
ith the new "900" stock tickers. I don't know how it was used -
resumably the paper tickets are reports of trades and they are
eyboarding them into tape to be transmitted on the stock exchange
ire. You can see in the right background some of the old black cube
ickers from 1930. The "900" stock tickers were officially called
Model 28" by the Bell System, but they actually used Model 37
echnology. In my opinion that was the last successful Teletype
roduct based on almost entirely mechanical technology. The later
odel 37 and Model 38 didn't achieve much in the way of sales
nd never got all the bugs worked out. And the next successful
roducts were the 40 and 42/43 which used a lot of electronics.
