Ed, If you follow the key linkages you'll find they trip a universal bail that runs the width of the keyboard and is located just rearward of the "code levers". When this bail trips and rotates, it allows the "universal bail latch lever" to drop. This lever is pretty obvious, it's about midway centered left to right of the keyboard and is 90 degrees to the univ bail.
When this latch lever drops, it does two things: 1. It drops down onto, and trips the 'code bar bail latch'...this initiates what I would call keyboard sampling (up to this point everything is actuated by the keypress) 2. It prevents the universal bail from resetting until the sampling cycle is complete.
If you lift up the bail latch lever the universal bail should return to upright via spring tension and your key should pop back up. Check this first.
