I got some from fair radio that were dry also they were in an AP
box that was kinda neat but needed working ribbons! the box was a cool
prop so I accepted a price adjustment that was offered,.,.,. and I
await your "Pure Glycerin" report!

I purchased an eBay batch of teletype ribbons which the seller represented
as sealed in plastic. On receipt, it was revealed that the plastic was
not sealed, and the ribbons were dried out.
The seller gave me a price break, and I went on to search the Internet for
a description of the chemical contents of typewriter ink.
As you may well imagine there are many, but the one ingredient that
surfaced over and over again was glycerine.
Acting on a suspicion that I could re-activate dried out ribbons by
applying glycerine (or even dunking the whole ribbon in a glycerin bath), I
purchased a 6 oz bottle of "Pure Glycerin" at the local CVS pharmacy for a
couple of bucks.
More later...
