I remember a lot of used/surplus shops on Canal St. The last large one I
recall was Ramco, they were still operating in 1991, but closed soon
after. There were surplus electric equipment shops that I never saw open
that had motors and switchgear stacked to the ceiling. Is there anyone
on this list that lives in Manhattan? I have often wondered what it
would be like for an electronics experimenter in lower or midtown
Manhattan. Expensive rent and likely limited space, but ingenuity
helps. Are there any lofts in Chelsea or the West Village crammed full
of clanking, whirring, glowing goodies?
