IMO, the _problem_ is Digest Mode.

When folks reply to a Digest, they may edit out content that is not of
interest to them and just reply to a specific portion or they may just
top post (ahem) but they NEVER change the subject line. So now you have
a thread going discussing 6Y9 tubes and another whale oil and another
about the trouble with Canadians but they all have the same subject--
re: Digest bla bla.

Then, people who receive the digest have no way to ignore the cruft about
the Canadians or the whale oil because it's all in one digest message
that they received. They have to paw through the junk in that Digest
to find whatever may be useful to them. But, I'll argue that that is
their problem for choosing Digest mode.

If I was in charge, I'd turn off digest mode-- nobody can have it.

Then, subscribers set up their email client to filter the messages from
this list into its own mailbox (or directory or folder as those Windows
people call it) and when you want to read Greenkeys stuff, you change
into that mailbox and read the Greenkeys messages.

If you find a thread that is offensive, then don't read it and read
some other one... but now you CAN do that because you can follow USEFUL
subject lines and many email client applications will do the threading
display for you.
