There was a (The) Radio Shack in Boston circa 1946.  I have their ad in
the back of an ARRL Handbook which has lost its cover but I think it's
the 1946 edition.  Perhaps that was the company that was acquired by the
owner of Tandy Leather and converted into a nationwide chain of small
electronics stores.  And later acquired Allied.

There was an Australian company, I've forgotten the name now, which
started some stores competing with Radio Shack in California back in
the '70s or '80s but gave up on it fairly quickly.
