You might be able to find the parts, but it would be probably easier and
more rewarding to put in an electronic regenerative repeater or a
microcomputer with non-overline programmed into it.
A lot of errors with bad signals are caused by mutilated stop pulses,
that cause the selector clutch to fail to latch up at the right time.
Then the shaft continues to rotate and you get several errored
characters before things get back into sync. A regenerator will fix
that. Then you could program a microcomputer to ensure you don't
start typing after a carriage return until there has been a line feed,
and to count characters and put in a carriage return if one is apparently
missed.
I say this with a lot of hand waving. Maybe somebody has done it and
can recommend a particular microcontroller for the purpose.
