OK, so I went delving into the greenkeys admin settings again, to decipher their bounce processing algorithm, and their limits, and equations for calculating hard-bounce vs soft-bounce, and when a bounce tally becomes stale, and my head was starting to hurt.

But then I ran across an interesting thing -- I can turn bounce processing off -- so I did. Huh. So there mailman.

We'll see what that causes next, if anything.

Strange thing is that I am subscribed to about half a dozen different QTH.net lists, some of which have as high a traffic count as Greenkeys. But Greenkeys is the only one that I ever get the bounce warning message from. Got one yesterday, in fact.

Hey Ralph:

Yeah, it's a bummer that aol is so screwy. Luckily I don't have to jump through hoops like you did, I can only say "oh well, not much I can do," and leave it up to the users to deal with it (like, get a friendlier isp).

I can re-enable bounce-disabled accounts (which takes a while) over and over, and I have set bounce trigger limits to max, but other than that I have no control over how mailman deals with the issue.

Surprisingly, it just does not seem to be an issue with other ISPs. Ya know, my credit card companies "learn" my habits so they can spot unusual activity...

You would think that aol would know that after a user has been getting daily email from greenkeys (for months or years or a decade, sheesh), that it is ok to whitelist greenkeys and not piss off their users. Just silly programming by inexperienced software types, I suppose.
