John - I would see if they are  open today and go over and bag  it!
even if  you later  get a clean ASR 28   you will be  able to  always find 
another  home  for something this   nice!
 
Sometimes  the separate puncher/print on the tape thing turn up in  nice  
shape  too.    We have one  with a 3  speed   shift in  it  the  looks  
really   nice.
 
I have yet  to find a 28  standalone  reader    yet  for the collection 
here.... do not  really need is as  we  have the  asr 28  but  would be  fun  
to add to  the  display at the museum.

Nope, in  the back of an antique shop somewhere in Wisconsin.

I was puzzled by  its untouched condition.  It didn't show signs
of refurbishment.   It looked "new old stock".  

Any guesses as to when (between 1951  and 1981) it was made, and 
where it would've been used?

I'm not  going to be able to find a reader and a punch
in that condition, am  I?
