[GreenKeys] Packing woes

Hi John,

I do not remember selling my M28 ROTR which is still here. However I
have given away many different Teletype machines. I try to mimic the
way TTY Corp used to ship items. I bolt the mechanism where possible
to a piece of 1/4 inch plywood and then put extra holes for nylon
cordage to hold the cover in place.
Then pack pieces of foam and or large bubble wrap around the item.
The plywood needs to match the size of the inside of the cardboard
box. I then take another box and cut off the top and bottom and slide
it inside to keep the plywood in place. I have found the best place to
get boxes is at Home Depot as they sell double wall corrugated boxes
for less than $2.00 each. To get the same kind of box from an office
supply store costs about $12.-$14.

John Nagle used this system last year to send me a M14 Tape Printer.
He also decided to put the three major subassemblies in three separate
cartons. We have had so many problems here that I did not open the
boxes until Jim Haynes came to visit recently. The two of us opened
the boxes and re-assembled the machine. It is beautiful..! I also
have a friend in Skokie, Illinois who picked up a M15 table for me
from an ex-Teletype engineer, who has since passed on. I am pleased
to report that both the table and the M14 are both finished in brown
crinkle! Now I have to re-organize the few machines I have and get
them lubricated and on-line.

Hope this helps...

P.S. I am still over 300 emails behind... :-(

Hi Don,

You recently sold a M28 stand alone reperf. How did you pack this
to prevent damage in transit?

The reason I ask is one that I am getting ready to sell I had to find a
replacement shell for because the original was damaged in shipment
to me.
