On the outside it is pretty clean, good so far.
BEFORE you turn it on
Take a look at the rubber cap that hits the type wheel, on 32's and 33's it
has a tendency to decompose. If it fails and falls
off the steel button that the cap snaps onto will hit the type wheel and
ruin it very quickly.
A piece of rubber tubing you cut a piece and slip over the arm will get you
started.
Next look for is oil vs rust, and if the grease on the gears etc is still,
well grease.
You don't need to go nuts but there are places that you need to make sure
are oiled, sinterted* *bearings, etc. before you
run it for more then a few seconds.
DO NOT USE WD40, 3-IN-1 etc. Just a good grade light machine oil are good
to start with. Search the list for
recommendations. Just a warning .. lubricants are somewhat like a religion.
Then manually turn the motor using the fan cage, make sure the correct
rotation, about 20-30 full rotations, if it freezes
up don't think about power until you find out why. 32/33's are know for
jamming / freezing up.
Next, make sure power switch is off, plug it in, but be ready to unplug it
fast
I'll let someone else finish, got to get back to work ....
