Doug,
I was under the impression that 43's came out in the 1970's, but I expect Don knows for sure.
You should be able to find a 43 or 42 (much rarer) cheaply as you could not give them away a few years ago. I tossed a 43 KSR into a dumpster a couple of years ago when I had a new roof put on the house.
Cassette tape storage I have seen when I worked for WU Data Services in Portland, Maine for a short time. Cant remember much about the details except you put the message on cassette instead of punched tape and then sent it.

Subject: [GreenKeys] Model 43 tape punch-reader project
One of my interests is the ‘retro’ product styling of the late 60‘s - mid 70’s. The Model 43 (and 42) tape punch/reader is a classic example of this.
Doubtful I will find an original, I may try making a replica of the enclosure, and put in a suitable tape punch/reader, from say a model 32. Anyone
who has photos, drawings, manuals or technical information, let me know. Thanks to Don House, for already helping out on the project!
Also, I saw online (probably a Teletype ad, not sure I saved it), a reference made to a ‘cassette storage’ option for this model. Is that referring to a
peripheral storage device? Did such a device exist?
Below are a couple nice photos of a 43 TTY and tape punch/reader, in you are interested.

As mentioned in a separate post, I’m also looking for a Model 43 (42) Teletype, hopefully close to New Jersey.
