Hi Gil,

The nominal specs are 60/40 make-break ratio @ 10pps.

The "tolerance" would be up to the receiving device.

As an aside, RE: TT receivers, many of the newer digital switches have no 
"tolerance" to anything other than the exact DTMF frequencies, even though 
the TT dial is well within specs.

But, then again, most of us know all to well about specs & interoperability.

Not sure who first mis-used the term ...

But, at the risk of a the flames, there is no such telephone component as a 
"dialer" (unless maybe you are referring to the person dialing the phone).

The thingy into which you insert your index finger and turn is 
called  DIAL. (OK, actually, it is the finger wheel).
