[GreenKeys] Purpose of Foam Mat in ASR33

When I first got my ASR33 I opened it up and took out the main units to
clean it all up. Under the typing unit there was a foam mat that had all but
disintegrated, so I took what was left out and threw it away.

What is the purpose of this mat and is there anything particular I should
replace it with?
