There has been some talk lately about the problems of interfacing the ST-8000A with external equipment. Mainly the availability and high cost of the MS type connectors required.
George, W7TTY, has manufactured and great kit that solves that problem and it's basically remove of the old plate with connectors and install a new plate with more user friendly (more common and less expensive) connectors. It is a very professionally laid out and assembled replacement for the original connector assembly.
He initially made about 10 or so of these in late 2010. Once the mechanical installation is completed it is basically a one solder joint and then plug and play set up. Plus he has fully documented then process.
It was much cheaper for me than looking for, finding and paying for the MS connectors and then having to wire them up. I still had to wire the more common connectors or I could actually use some common commercially available cables. In any case it is more versatile now with the modification.
