Welcome aboard!

Dunking or washing is not a great idea for 33's. The solvent will melt the plastic parts in the Answerback area. You do not want to remove the AB block as it is hard wired in and its hard to get it back perfectly.

I blow out 33's and clean them best I can with spray solvent on sliding codebars etc being careful to stay away from the plastic block.

Dont use spray solvent on any plastic blocks in a 33. Clean carefully with contact cleaner sprayed on to a pipe cleaner.

Breakaway is a product that will free up congealed grease on sliding parts if necessary.

Be careful not to make any adjustments on your 33's until you have exhausted all visual inspections for broken springs, contacts out of slots, codebars sticking, function levers out of slots etc.

Have fun,

Wayne

Hi
I'm new in this group after posting some questions on the yahoo
ypwriter group. As a member of the dutch hackergroup hack42, situated
n Arnhem, the Netherlands, i have taken upon me the task of fixing our
wo asr33's and siemens t37's only one machine is in working condition.
he rest suffers from sticky grease. now one of our members has a
artswasher working with petroleum and i was wondering if that could be
omething to use: take off all electrics and keycaps and submerge the
echanical parts into the washer, lubricating them afterwards.
is this a good approach?
