  The alternative is to remove the connectors and replace them
  with something a bit more useful.

  I still have a pile of aluminum plates and the full size drilling
  templates I made a few years ago. If memory serves me,
  they are 2" x 8"

  Then you mount RCA Phono, 9-Pin D type connectors to the
  plate.
