The Western Union report titled "History of Technical Progress 1935-1945"
says that by 1935 the only available page printer was the Teletype Model
15, "an excellent machine but so costly (approximately $750) that it could
be justified only for the largest accounts." Hence W.U. undertook
development of their own lower cost machine, resulting in the 100-series
teleprinters..."To date, 6500 Western Union Type 100 to 104 Teleprinters
...have been produced, at a price which was about $2,500,000 less than
that of the same number of Teletype Type 15 machines." That works out to
a saving of about $385 per machine.
