Yep, thanks Pete! I'm learning what I can about cable lacing, and should have enough black cloth covered wire for the job.
Had a few minutes to play with it again last night... Refinished the base tag. Came out really nice. It was pretty ugly when I started. Paint was almost all gone.

Also dealt with something I forgot to do before I painted the base... One of the foot screws was broken off flush with the base. Should have removed it before I painted it, but it slipped my mind. Anyway, I'm no machinist and I hate trying to drill and tap these things out. I don't have the tools to do it right. One trick I picked up a few years ago working on cars is to weld something to the nub of a broken bolt and use that to turn it out... The heat of the weld will break it loose from even really bad rust. You have to be really careful if the bolt is in a ferrous object, but if it's in aluminum or magnesium or something the weld won't stick to it. Melt it, sure, but at least you won't weld the bolt nub in permanently lol. That foot screw is so tiny I set my MIG on its lowest settings and just tapped it a couple of times. It put a little blob on top of the screw and I just grabbed it with some pliers. Came right out. You can see the little blob on top of it...

New screw went right in and all the feet are back on (thanks for the new screw TT!).
Also stripped and painted the motor switch housing and bracket...I put them in my garage toaster oven and got it good and hot before I went to bed, so I could just turn it off and let them dry in it. Should be plenty dry today. Those can go back on the base, and then I think it's on to getting started on the wiring...
