Steve,

Welcome to the Kleinschmidt portion of TTY fun!

I see Duncan has already pointed you to some manuals so you are on your way.

There aren't as many of us that are Kleinschmidt fans here on Greenkeys as there are Teletype Corp fans, but there is a wealth of information and hours of fun ahead of you.

If I can help please don't hesitate to ask.

As for typing on your unit but nothing is happening, is the 20/60/Test switch in the "Test" position and the keyboard "Lock" in the off position? While typing on the keyboard with one hand use the other hand to place a finger against the armature of the selector magnets and "feel" for any movement in the armature.
