So to do minicomputers like DEC's venerable PDP series machines (8 and
11 being the common hobby boxes), or Data General's stuff.
Of course, unless the person who is buying the Altair is a classic
computer hobbyist all they want the machine for is "It's old! It's the
first personal computer! It's <X>!" Same with the Teletype becuase
they heard it was used with the Altair, "ZOMG! Must buy a Model 33
Teletype!"
Personally, I'm mostly interested in finding a Model 35 machine (for
my PDP-11, not that it would be the right terminal for it, but
NEVERMIND MY REASONS WHY). Though I'm also sort of looking for a Model
28 Compact. Though what I'd really like is a 28ASR with under dome
reperf and LCXD... not going to happen, but NEVERMIND THAT.
Admittedly I love the aesthetics of the Model 28 and Model 35; the
Model 33 looks too... boring and plastic. But the 28 and 35 have a
great "dieselpunk" vibe to them. Plus they're useful. Not that 33
isn't useful, but they're far less interesting as compared to a 35.
My random two cents.
Cheers,
Christian
