Hi Everyone,
As some of you know, my primary hobby is landline telegraph. I'm a member of the Morse Telegraph Club which is dedicated to the preservation of the landline telegraph using the original American Morse (not International) code.
For the past 5 years or so, we have had a display at the Dayton Hamvention (in the Silver Arena building) where we promote our hobby and also sign up members for our club. Many of you have stopped by in previous years to offer a warm hello and it's been great to meet some of the folks who I've befriended on this list.
For about 2 years, we have been in talks with Tom Perera, W1TP, who has been working on an Enigma project for years about having a joint display with him. Tom has been interested and we believe we have a proposal to display jointly our items. We have had a request to have a teletype booth as part of the display this year and going forward. Nothing fancy, just a couple of page printers, a TD, a Reperforator and maybe a handful of other gadgets. One way to do it is have a half-dozen guys each bring one piece so no one person does too much. That's the way we do it at the Morse Telegraph Club booth....
I already have my hands 100% full with the Morse Telegraph Club's display and I am not able to do anything beyond that. I would like to invite the Greenkeys community to put together a basic teletype display at the Hamvention this year. It's a very rewarding experience as you have people who stop by and reminisce about the fun they had over the years with the hobby. Many hams had a great time with the mechanical machines and it's a lot of fun to demonstrate your equipment for the visitors and introduce the newer and younger hams to these mechanical marvels.
So what do you guys say? Anyone up for helping with a tty booth at the hamvention? You would be set up next to our club's booth so there would be friendly neighbors for sure! For those that indicate interest in helping, I will put you in touch with the organizer.
Thanks and 73,
Derek Cohn
