QUICK and EASY Battery Tester --just my theory 


It does work, I think the batteries getting weaker will start getting a rounded bottom, because of the corrosion building up or whatever is happening in the case, and the weaker the  battery, the bottom gets rounder and harder to standup when dropped.  This is just my theory tho.
