I suspected that I would not need to install the shipping screws as you confirm, given that it will be in my car, although it sounds like it might be an idea to tie down the carriage in place. Mine unit does not have a pedestal by the way.
Thanks for all the other information by the way.
Regards
Rob

Rob,
In the trunk or back seat of your car you should not need any shipping screws. You remove the 33 from the pedestal to transport or ship it. If shipping you send the pedestal in a separate box.
The 33 sits in 4 rubber feet to keep the noise level down. If you leave the shipping screws in you defeat that. Also it may affect the H lever adjusment between your printer and keyboard.
The 3 printer shipping screws are 10/32 by 1 inch long with a small flat washer if you dont use a board to bolt the 33 onto. If you use a board just add the thickness of the board to 1 inch. There are 3 screws in the printer to hold it in the pan during shipping. One is easy to see from the top, its in the front in the middle of the printer casting. The other two are in back at the corners and you cant see them from the top. Always good to start with the front one to get the feel of it, then the back two. They install from the bottom of course. If shipping you should also remove the ribbon and tie the carriage fully returned to the top of the spacing sprocket bracket.
Wayne

Subject: [GreenKeys] M33 Shipping Screws
I am planning to show off my M33 at DEC Legacy <http://wickensonline.co.uk/declegacy/> in October, which means transporting it in my car for about 100 miles or so. Since it will be me moving it and doing the driving I was wondering if it is necessary to install shipping screws? If so, what is their spec as I don’t have them?
Do they just hold the typing unit in place? If so I have always been curious as to why the typing unit is “loose” in the subbase anyway, why should the shipping screws even be removed?
Thanks
Rob
