These machine were used as terminals for early computer systems from
Telefunken or Zuse.
The keyboard layout might have been more convenient for typing numbers
like today the
separate numbers block at your modern pc keyboard.
cheers

fun is, i'ts in the wikipedia commons:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fernschreiber_T100_Siemens.jpg
it is almost exactly this machine, except for the carbon paper
attachement.
note the light right of the keyboard. i have no idea what it should do,
because it has been rewired. there are a lot of interior pictures of this
machine as well.

Wasn't the T100 purely mechanical?
Can't you post a picture?

I just found out that it was not a regular telex. it has a numerical
block on the right and includes characters like []() flatted x, / and
was build to be a computer terminal. although it runs a 5bit code,
chances are it was not ITA2. maybe that explanes the odd baudrate.
now to find proper schematic as one of the previous owners completely
rewired it for his own needs.

Hello all,
I just got a Siemens T100 with teh very odd baudrate of 74.23 it also
has a keyboard layout where the numbers are grouped on the right. It has
the qwertzu layout, indicating it was used in western germany. why the
strange baudrate?
