[GreenKeys] WD-40 Naming

I remember in the bad old days when cars and trucks had distributors and distributor caps and were built with designed obsolescence... those caps always seemed to leak HV out and water in. When an otherwise good starting car (remember, fuel injection was decades away), the first thing that I would do after checking that there was gas in the tank was to spray WD-40 inside and outside the distributor cap, then pull each plug wire out and spray it down, especially under the tower and plug caps. That usually did it. If not, then (of all things) a cap full of ether (god, really... I am surprised that I did not blow myself to kingdom come) down the carb throat. That always worked.

Jeez, I am glad that I drive a Nissan now with direct port fuel injection and individual coils mounted on the plugs. Never once had a problem starting even in dead of winter.

Was told WD of the WD-40 means “Water Displacement”.

Yes, according to a show on cable I saw a couple of years ago, and it may have been
“Modern Marvels” , a company rep said that 40 was the 40th formula that worked.
I have forgotten what the WD was.
Thought that was neat and simplistic
