[GreenKeys] MDF

Hi Paul,
Sorry about that. A few weeks ago, I was lamenting the fact that I cannot seem to find any telephone central office (CO) main distribution frame (MDF) hardware. There are a few of the little parts floating around out there in cyberspace, such as wire rings and pins and such, but none of the big iron pieces. The MDF in a CO is the connecting point where the pairs of wires from each customer connects to the CO "inside plant" or switch. The reason for this is that in the days of electromechanical switches, the wires from the switch were permanent whereas the wires from the subscribers might change; i.e. people might move and want the same phone number, etc. So rather than soldering and unsoldering the subscriber lines to the switch, the subscriber lines would be attached to the vertical side of the frame and the switch would be attached to the horizontal side of the frame. Then semi-permanent cross-connect (sometimes called Xover) wires would connect the
two sides.
I am trying to build a small electromechanical telephone switch using stepper relays.
I hope this explains a bit better than my last post.
Best,
Joe

Care to share a little more? I have no idea what you are talking about (well, maybe guess). Did I miss a key post a while back that explained the project?

Hi,
THIS is the best information that I have found for my project! Thank you very very much!
I think that I will build my own MDF framework, and populate it with verticle protectors from TJacobs and connecting blocks from Phoneco.
Best,
Joe

Here are some pictures of my 200 line one sided MDF under construction. I believe this was made for a small PBX and was modified slightly to fit my needs. Also look at http://www.telephonecollectors.info/index.php/browse/bc-switching-library/automatic-electric/doc_details/3888-ae-bulletin-803-1959-distribution-frames for more info. ADavid
