I had one of those as a kid. It's only interesting if you're
a toy collector.
The INDEX button advances the print wheel one notch, using
a solenoid and escapement mechanism. The PRINT button powers
a solenoid that presses the tape against the inked print wheel
and prints one letter. When the solenoid releases, it advances
the tape one position.
There is no unison device. If it gets out of sync, it
stays out of sync until the users at each end manually reset
it. In that respect, it's like a classic House printing
telegraph, or a pre-Edison stock ticker.
Supplies include gummed paper tape, "telegram blanks",
ink, and a rotating wheel ink sponge.
