What is on archive.org varies highly in quality. When I was alerted
to old computer magazines being archived there, I was browsing some
issues and the scans were so horrible the text wasn't even legible.
While there are some older documents on bitsavers that are scanned at
lower resolution, almost all new documents added are at 600dpi.
Sometimes a manual is added to bitsavers from another source, i.e.
it is not an original scan. For those documents, it's better to have
a well mirrored copy for preserveation purposes than it is to insist
on high density scans of something for which no original is in our
posession.
It's good to have a mirror on archive.org, but unfortunately it isn't
a straight path-for-path mirror as far as I can tell, so I can't add
it as another bitsavers mirror to manx. :-(
