Hi all,
Just a TD update. No, I do not play or even watch football. I speak of Transmitters-Distributors. A.K.A., tape readers.
Got two model 28 TDs of different flavors.
The working one is Model 28, in an H40 cover, and LXD-4 mechanical part. I was able to successfully change the gear set to 60 WPM. Photo link below.

Now, my problem child.
It is also a model 28, but considerably more compact than the above unit. I suspect that it was used in some sort of contraption that held a number of TDs and was used to transmit many different messages to many different places simultaneously. It has somewhere in its journey through life been dropped (before I received it). The metal frame of the mechanical part has been slightly bent, as some of the other parts such as the bottom plate. The unit still turns freely by hand, but I have not powered it up yet for reasons to be explained. A photo link is below.

The frame code is LXD-B21, and the reader code is LXD-44. This unit is filthy. The sound dampening material has turned to some sort of very dry, abrasive grossness that has contaminated the motor. I have removed what was left of it from the inside of the cover with a scraper, hot water and a Brillo pad. I will attempt to (carefully) straighten out the bent mechanical frame with a pair of wide, flat jawed vice grips. The motor is about half the size of a normal Teletype Corp. motor, and has in faded but very large red letters "HOT". There seems to be no lubrication ports on this motor. I need to blow or flush the crumbs from the sound deadener material from the mechanical parts. The bottom plate will be gently as possible be straightened out with a flat face hammer and dolly.
Below are photos of the damage to the frame...

Now, for the really weird bit... This unit is of course a 5 bit TD. However, it does not have the usual WECO cloth cord and plug on it. It has a (horrors) a Centronix type of connector. I am not into computers much, and really do not like those style of connectors on anything except where they belong, and that is WE CO 1A2 systems! Any way, the power cord is non-existent. It has one of those three terminal twist lock power cord connector that I need to find. Does anyone know what they are called? Below is a photo of the back end of the TD. I do not want to perform surgery on my TD to get it connected, so I guess that I will have to find a Centronix connector for it. Does anyone know what pins on said connector would be the loop connector? And yes, I will need to find a gear set for it, as it has the same sized gears that my first TD had before I re-geared it.
Hope you enjoyed this little post and show!
Best,
Joe
