Was there any discussion of the Western Union call box?  I have two of those 
small blue and white crank boxes.....I understand that if your office needed 
a "Western Union Boy" to come for a telegram, you spun the crank and shortly 
thereafter, he picked up the telegram you wanted sent.  The crank wound a 
spring that pulses out your office code.
