Greenkeyers,
Back in June/July this year I sought your help in the restoration of the
Lorenz HL36 Tape Perforator (akin to the GPE 'Iron Horse') at the
National Museum of Computing, Bletchley Park, UK.
I am pleased to report that this unit has now been restored to
operational status and placed in the museum as a static display
alongside the other teletype equipment and next door to the Colossus
computer room.
I attach some photos showing the very pleasing result. The Tunny Room
contains teleprinters & radio equipment (currently receiving signals
from a German weather station for authenticity!) and the early paper
tape handling 'bedstead'. The Lorenz is in the display cabinet at the
far end of the room.
I very much appreciate all the support I got from many of you. Thanks -
It made me believe it was possible to get this unit working . . . and
now I have a result!
During my research into the history of these machines I came across a
short video clip on the web showing German soldiers operating similar
comms equipment in some woods - possibly a training film. Regretfully I
did not make a note of the web-site. Does this ring any bells with any-one?
Best wishes
David March
