I've been successful in copying KSM, W1AW and a couple
of QSOs using MMTTY. Feeding the sound card from the 500 ohm
output of my R-388. May switch to the 4 ohm output because
its pretty high level. I just downloaded the current version
of MMTTY, the one I've been using is a couple of years old.
I did get it to work in the past using an SP-600-JX as the
source. The R-388 works like a charm. Mine has been modified
to have a product detector and slow AVC.
I am pretty sure from comparisons to a couple of web
sites that have recordings of various kinds of signals that
what I heard is SITOR. There does not seem to be a freeware
decoder for this and I am not quite curious enough to buy
software for it.
I am sure this is all very elementary to most on this
list but its still a bit of a thrill to see the computer
printing out the jingle bells. Also, it will copy almost
down to the noise level. That is interesting because I have
another program that will read CW but when the signals are
fading and noisy I can easily out copy it by ear and I am
not that good.
My thanks to all of you who corresponded with me. My
question may have been a bit silly but I get very curious
about things. Perhaps if I wasn't a nosy person to begin
with I would never have gotten interested in Teletype.
