For those of you that have hesitated to try to get John's interface and
software working on your own equipment, I use it every day and enjoy it
immensely. The marriage of old technology and new technology to send and
receive text messages using a teletype machine is a great demonstration of
"the original text machine." It is very interesting to see the look on
people's faces when I send them a text message from the keyboard, and even
more amazing when they see their response come back in and print on paper on
a printer that is as old or older than they are.
For any that might be interested, I can probably be convinced to order a few
more of the boards if we can get at least three of you that want to give it
a try. John has made the board design freely available (Thank You, John!),
but the board has to be ordered in lots of 3.

Steampunk Convention, May 25-28.
We'll have our gear at the Clockwork Alchemy Steampunk Convention, May
25-28, at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose. See
"http://www.clockworkalchemy.com"
As usual, we'll have a whole steampunk era telegraph office.
It looks like this: "http://www.aetherltd.com/deployment.html"
Attendees can text in messages from cell phones, which are printed on a
Model 15 in a custom brass and glass case. A Model 14 prints from a news
feed, including convention updates.
Messengers with caps and badges deliver the messages around the convention.
The operators, usually young women, are in steampunk costume, busily sorting
and stamping messages.
