Hello Folks,
I haven't written in quite some time, but I have some news.
Since January I gave an update to the Heavymetal branch I made in 2010 and I released a couple new builds, adding features, changing some and fixing problems.
Current build is 3.1.002
The new features are:
- RSS Support for news of any kind
- Full article support for a number of news sources (Reuters, AP, BBC, ANSA, Spiegel, TELAM, etc)
- WWO (World Weather Online) weather webservices
- Google weather webservice
- YAHOO Weather over RSS
- METAR from the ADDS (Aviation Digital Data Service) webservices
- Support for weather teletypes (Arrows etc)
- METAR in HISTORIC format
- Fixed NOAA FTP (Although it no longer seems to have good data)
- Custom commands support
- Up to 2 serial ports (more can be added upon request)
- New GUI with lots of configs easy to use
- Console only mode without GUI for those who use servers
- Twitter feeds over RSS
- A menu with historical wires (JFK, Apollo, etc)
- A simple web command to navigate webpages
- Built in CRON (No longer needs external exe)
- Built in banner (No longer needs external exe)
This was tested in Linux (fedora) and WinXP.
For Linux you have to install ActivePerl
For Windows you can choose to have your own ActivePerl setup of to use an EXE version (The exe does not work for Win98).
Either case you have a readme with step by step to install.
I want to specially thank Jim Haynes for all the help he provided to make this work in Linux and also to help me out with the weather codes and standards.
