Hey folks,

 

Thought I'd pass on a note about my success in using John Nagle's TTY
Converter (RS-232 to Current Loop device) and its associated software.

 

I have it now working in RO mode receiving RSS news feeds and "TEXT"
messages from a Google Voice number.  Next up, and this should be real easy
now that the 'hard' part is out of the way, is to get the keyboard connected
so I can use it in send/receive mode and actually send some text messages
from the keyboard.

 

John's documentation says it is designed to work with a M15 or M28, but I
can assure you it works on a Kleinschmidt variety TTY as well.  It is typing
in the background another RSS news feed even as I compose this email.  Can
you hear it?  Or smell the oil?  J

 

I'm using a computer with a real serial port, but will soon attempt using
the USB device John mentions in his documentation.

 

As John also mentions, at least a little bit of knowledge of the Python
programming would be a big help in getting things working.  But not a total
show stopper as long as you're not adverse to installing Pyton and getting
software that is not plug and play working.

 

If you would like me to send you a test "TEXT" from my Kleinschmidt
keyboard, just drop me the phone number of your text enabled phone and then
you can show your off your text message from an honest to goodness "original
text machine."
