Funny, I was just playing around with this idea but went a different route. I wanted a way to have these files in a location where I can 'copy' to any of my machines at will. Several years ago I purchased an Olympus VN-960PC Digital Voice Recorder. I used the device to record audio interviews and make notes. In addition to the internal mic it has a (mono) mic input jack. The recorder has an internal memory of 128 MB (not expandable or removable) and using the standard quality setting I can record 535 minutes (8.9 hours) total on the machine. As you are recording, you can place 'index' marks in the file to mark beginning and ending of messages. It also come with software for file transfer to pc or mac and light editing. So far it copies with no errors to my CP-100 Demodulator. Later I will test my Hal ST-5 and Eric's Demodulator. Before anyone rushes out to find one only to hate me later, here is the caveat. The device is strictly designed as a voice recorder and what internal memory it has, that's it. Files can only be transferred from the recorder to the computer. It's been awhile but I think the editing software saves in .wav format. There is a Voice Activation function so it may work on recording Autostart but I have not tried it. Amazon sells these recorders from $30 to hundreds, just make sure it has an external mic jack and a USB port for file transfer. As always, your mileage may vary. Kevin/KD8QGX
