Agreed...lit would be educational to get it going again, but not
"urgent".
When I was 15 years old I bought a Model 19 from a surplus company
in Philadelphia and had it shipped to my home in Long Island. It ran
great for one week and the motor burned up. Thankfully, my father
had a Model 15 weather TTY in his office and he knew the TTY
repairman very well....(skip forward 10 years and I was my father's
TTY repairman when I got my job with Ma Bell! By then it was
a Model 28.)

Jack's advice is good! -My spare motor- (ebay: $20) is sitting next
to
the pieces of my original motor as emotional backstop! I will not be
daunted...that M15 will run again.
That said, my feeling is that a 50 or 60 year old, all metal, greasy
piece of industrial equipment should properly be approached as 'Guy
Fun'
(or Gal Fun, if you're a gal.) So long as I don't hurt myself...:-)

P.S. I'd be looking for bits of spring or metal falling out of the
starter-switch clamshell when opened.
P.P.S Stuff designed to last forever or be repaired to keep on going
is
such a pleasure to behold. Today's equivalent motor is probably
unopenable and utterly unrepairable.
