A big job, but I finally finished it. I scanned the Bell System P35
Practice
for all Model 14 Teletypewriters. I think it is an important set of
bulletins.
The P Practices were small notepad sized manuals that cover just about
everything you needed to know, from getting releases from customers
to organizing and performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, etc.
This set of documentation is 345 pages that covers everything to do
with the Model 14 line. The sections are from 1933 to 1955. This
particular manual was kept up to date by a foreman and so is free of
fingerprints and has most updates.
Whatever you might be looking for, it is probably here. It even includes
the early switching system used to monitor traffic, the color of the
wires,
all the different wiring plans, the special units used at the manual TWX
switchboards and test-boards.
I put this together over several days. As with just about everything
I do,
there is good news and bad news. First, the paper is very thin, and so
some of the text from the back side shows through. Second, the
addendums are printed on pink paper which does not scan properly.
However I am able to read and understand each page. Finally the
high resolution PDF is 12.4 MegaBytes, which is pretty large to send
over the web. I did make a low resolution version but the early fonts
and diagrams do not show up well in the 4.5 MB version.
In conclusion, it would be good to remind you that the Model 14 line
includes the GPE perforator, also known as the 14A and as the Black
and Green perforator. Then there is the Tape Printers 2B and 14
and the Reperforators 14 and 20, the Typing Reperforators, and
the Transmitter Distributors. Also covered are four different motors.
I can burn you a CD for $5. which includes postage, or I can upload
the 12.4 file to one or more sites so that you can download it. I
can also print you a copy and mail it to you via Media Mail but that
would cost you $35. I do not think the low resolution file is worth
much as reading it would give you a headache. I also do not want
to spend a lot of time sending the large file to many people as it
takes quite a while and ties up my computer.
I am hopeful that some of you with websites will reply and put
this important document up for others to download.
Happy Teletyping and 73, Don K9TTY
