We had a TIS-3 on Guam - which served us very well there -
then in Newport News, VA - where we used it (believe it or
not) on CB. If anyone is interested I'll tell the story of
how that came about... but only if- as I don't wish to bore
folks.

Anyway when I got out of the Navy early 1978 - some of the
others that regularly participated in CB RTTY net in the
Tidewater region approached me about buying some of my gear
- and the TIS-3, along with both Kleinschmidts and a bunch
of other gear stayed with new owners as Sherry and I moved
to Mississippi. As noted - we've regretted letting a lot of
that stuff go since - and are slowly re-building. To that
end - I have a saved search for Technical Materials "stuff"
- and sometime back a really nice TH-39B showed up - with
not much of a description, etc. I managed to snag it. The
TH-39B/UGT was the last of the TIS-3 series -- used in the
AN/URT-19, AN/URT-39, AN/URT-40, etc. I think I was really
lucky - as the last TIS-3 I looked at before that was in
pretty rough shape and went for considerably more.

They are sweet-hearts - easy to set, etc. - and when their
output is fed to a reasonably stable SSB transmitter - drift
is negligible.

So while I agree - a complete unit would be preferable - I
still think it would be worth the effort to salvage the one
you have.

best regards (and good hunting!)
