Get some NON-Abrasive GO-JO hand cleaner and a stiff tooth brush (or
better yet a "hospital brush" used for cleaning hands before

See if that gets the gunk out.

Roy,
That reads like it would work. When I was a Teletype repairman for a
living we used the green 3M "scrubbing pads" on the textured or
wrinkle finished cabinets.
We used Johnson's kitchen wax (no longer made) on the smooth
cabinets. The most used cleaner was Formula 409 but today many folks
prefer Simple Green.
I personally used terry cloth towels to get the soap and water off.
Not very often, but sometimes... if the cabinet was really bad we
would repaint them. Western Electric stocked the GA green and the HF
gray in both pint cans and later in spray cans.
