You need to learn how to "butterfly" a tape. :-)
Maybe Gene and I can give you a lesson when we come to see you!

Subject: [GreenKeys] TTY newbie - operating questions
OK, I've managed to get a few of these electromechanical marvels running,
now I'm starting to play with them. Mostly copying WLO and the odd ham QSO
that lasts more than 2.4 milliseconds.....
Sunday I discovered my pal K4OZY (who keeps getting me deeper and deeper
into trouble) has a bag full of TTY art tapes. So I borrowed a couple of
tapes to make some dupes. Then I stood around for *hours* holding onto the
roll and feeding it into the TD on my 28ASR and printing and punching a
copy. Then I spent another couple of hours winding it all back up (original
and dupe).
The last time I was dealing with a lot of paper tapes was back in the
prehistoric computer era where we had a high-speed punch with take-up reel,
a high-speed optical reader with reels, and IIRC a nifty rewinder made out
of an electric eraser.

So my question to you wonderfully experienced souls out there is what do you
do about unreeling/reeling tape? - For example if you're gonna feed anything
longer than a 3' piece of tape through a 28ASR, where do you hang the source
tape? Or is it all normally just trash can to trash can operation?

I suffer from not having hung around with any TTY guys when I was a
youngster...then again. maybe I would have turned out even stranger.
cheers,
Nick K4NYW
