I started in the Bell System, starting with Pacific Telephone 3/31/70
after I got out of 'Nam after 25mos in the Army Sig Corps. I worked the
Toll center in Oakland, CA (1587 Franklin St.). Worked the 17B, C, and D
test boards on the 6th and 9th floors. We had 2 28KSR's with paper
winders on the 9th flr 17B board. I ended up with those after Pacific
Bell closed down the toll boards after cutting to the new 4A switch.
#1XB, 5XB, Glencourt SXS and panel + 10th flr XBT all went away during a
one weekend cutover. It was a sad day...
I went to work in SF, CA in 1980 and stayed there for 2 years and then
came back to Oakland to work on the new 4ESS going in on the 15th floor
(old 4A location). I ran the circuit maint. system for the statewide
4ESS's. Ran OS11 from BTL on duplex Vax 780's. I ran Unix SVR2 on the
backup Vax so I could hack code. I finally ended up as tier 3 tech spt
for broadband with SBC/AT&T and retired 1/11/2008 after 38yrs. I
couldn't take the BS anymore..AT&T just cares about the bottom line $$
and not the employees.
Wish I had kept those 28's, lol. Thanks to W7TTY I have a nice 28ASR and
found a paper winder on ebay for $100. Also found a Ham that had 12
baudot TTY art tapes that I got for $20. Excellent condition. Some are
babes, dogs, etc. Gotta make me a holder to outfeed the tapes so they
don't get all tangled up. Also need to see if my bud Paul C. has a tape
winder that will fit on the 28ASR cabinet. These are the only punched
RTTY art tapes I've seen, so I grabbed them.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case...coincidence?
A bartender is just a pharmacist with a limited inventory!
