It has been suggested that I send this tirade to the list explaining the
paper that Eugene got and is sending around the country:

I did some measurements on the new and old paper and came up with the
following--

Original yellow Govt. TT paper. Dia. 4.5". Thickness: .004 inch Equals 20
Lb. bond. (Typewriter/copy paper
)
Single Ply White Groundwood : Dia. 4.25. Thickness: .0045 inch Equals 24
Lb bond.

NCR paper Dia .3.75. Thickness: .003 inch 15 Lb. bond.

Soooooooooooooo....even though the diameter of the groundwood/yellow rolls
are larger, the NCR paper would seem to have more or the same amount paper.

To answer some questions--

Caliper:

Caliper refers to the thickness of a sheet of paper expressed
in thousandths of an inch. This measurement is taken with a micro meter.

Generally, the relation between caliper and basis weight ....
the greater the caliper (the thicker the paper), the greater the paper
weight.

BASIS  WEIGHT            CALIPER
